Hervey Bays Windy Weather

Friday, August 31st, 2007

Last week’s unseasonal rain has proved a welcome to Hervey Bay’s water supply and saved the Wide Bay Water Corporation from imposing tighter restrictions. Just one week ago Lenthall’s Dam was only 51% while after the rough weather it is now 71%. However, the water restrictions will still apply as summer is coming up and is still relatively low to see Hervey Bay through two wet seasons.

While this rough weather was going on I thought it was a great opportunity to take photos however, of  course my camera didn’t have any batteries - So I battled the winds and tried the corner store only to find that batteries weren’t good enough for my camera. As it will only run on the $7.00 batteries.

So I was resorted to taking really bad photos with a camera phone. One picture, as you may or may not be able to tell is all blurry as rain got in it. (Not to mention it is quite difficult to take pictures in the rain - without getting wet!) Anyway, once again you can see better pictures on http://www.flickr.com/photos/benmay/sets/72157601625226635/, however I may add that if it wasn’t for me, he wouldn’t even of know’n that this weather was going on!

Bundaberg Air Show 2007

Friday, August 10th, 2007

One the biggest events which happens every two years is the Bundaberg Air Show. This is a magnificent three day event, incorporating aerial demonstrations, joy flights, and static displays of some of the finest aircraft to take to the skies.

This was my first year of going to the show, however I have been to a similar smaller air show in my town – Hervey Bay. It was fantastic, and even though we arrived in the afternoon while most crowds had gone – it was still impressive!

The thing that impressed me the most was …the plane in the picture below. (try as I might, I can not find the name of it!) It is used to drop of soldiers in battle so it has to be able to get away quickly. It can take off in under 400m! Just to be able to see something so big, build up so much power and than take off in just that little amount is quite amazing!

More pictures to come of the Bundaberg Air show (2007) in the Gallery!

A few of them are already on www.flickr.com/photos/benmay - have a look!

Bleeding for a cause

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

Giving blood is one of the most eaiest things someone could do. Not to mention there are alot of free things you get out of it! Espically when you are at school, you get things like pizza vouchers, toys and mcdonals vouchers!

And for those of you who think it hurts, well yeah a needle going into you does hurt, but its just like getting a tiny neede. Its just a small prick when it goes in, than your set. You just sit around on a lounge while people pamper you and offer you drinks and snaks! Why wouldn’t you do it!

Just an hour out of your time, every three months! I reccomend it to anyone who at least hasn’t tried it once!

There is no real bad side..appart from one time (which will help those who don’t want to do it - to never do it!).  The begining of this year it was, and I had come in for the usual. However when they put the needle in, they actually pierced the whole vien! (internal bleeding) lol wasn’t such a big deal though.

I still donate though, but get a senior to do it!

DONATE!
